Hard to judge team without healthy Holbrook

Honestly, without Chase, this team will not look the same - unless McDermott plays out of his mind. The offense is so reliant on the passing game and Chase is the key piece to that. In football, the quarterback means so much. Again, they might not be a team's best player, but certainly, in most cases, the most valuable.

In the Aggies' case, the team is built around Chase, at least for now. He's the straw that stirs the drink. The other issues surrounding the Aggies have been beaten like a dead horse. But the reality is that most people knew that an injury at QB would be devastating. That is their system. It's hard to judge the team's performance without its most valuable player on the field.

Same goes for any other team. Take their most important piece off the table and things change. Win or lose, hopefully Chase comes back healthy within a matter of weeks. The team will be better with him back in there.

Then we will have to judge the team on heart and Mumme on his, "on the fly" coaching.

Heaven help us!

That's why I've never trusted ANY coach whose offense relies on passing to set up the running game-and what is this team's problem with not recruiting capable qb's? Sure,it looks great -WHEN IT WORKS!!-when it dosen't,you get disasters like Boise State.Oh,and PLEASE recruit some running backs to establish a REAL offense with TWO options-and BALL CONTROL!!

If this team has to ride on the fragile back of Chase Holbrook, then it is just a matter of time before the bottom falls out again. Chase is not blitz-proof and he is susceptible to injury like any QB and more so in some of Mumme's open backfield offensive formations. A good team needs more than one weapon to be a consistent winner.

With Mumme's monolithic approach to offense and game-planning, regardless of how good or how poor the QB is the same question would be asked. The real judgment of this team lies with Mumme. Let's take this unfair burden off of Chase Holbrook. On any team, everything rises or falls on the head coach.

How in the world can you say this team can't recruit Qb's? Give JJ a damn chance to prepare all week as the starter and not against Boise with a chip on their shoulder. It amazes me those who don't know crap spew it the most. Give the kid a chance to show oyu what he can do, unless you can do it better and how the hell is Chase's back fragile? Suit up.

Even if J.J. struggles this week, it does not mean he cannot play. He is a freshman. It's tough circumstances. He is highly touted and this will be a good experience for him. Unfortunately, it comes at a time when the team needs a win in the worst of ways. He just needs to deliver and play within himself.

Take a look at the "Should Mumme Go?" blog for discussion about the fundamental problem with this football team. Interesting stuff.

People seem to forget rather quickly that at one point we HAD more than Chase and JJ at quarterback. Scott Grantham was the back-up last year before his non-football injury/illness ended his football career and we had a very capable back-up in Alex Gibson before he went down in the Spring game. Mumme has recruited quarterbacks(tho i believe Gibson was a walk-on), but he's just had the worst of luck with their health.

Let's find out this week if this coaching staff is worth the money spent on them by you and me.If it was me,i'd be burning the midnight oil all this week to come up with an offensive attack with more rushing than passing-and challenge the rest of the team to step up and show some team leadership-there are seniors on the team, right?
