LaVorick Williams

Spoke to LaVorick Williams yesterday on the telephone.

Williams, who played for the Aggies last season is now on the UTEP roster. He showed flashes of promise last year on the football field, with good size and a fluid motion. Many Aggie fans were excited about what he might become, although they pictured his future in Crimson and White, not Miner Orange.

The wide receiver said that he left NMSU prior to the 2009 season in hopes of playing football and running track at Texas Tech, an option that wasn't available at NMSU (no men's track and field program). Things fell through for him at Tech, however. He attempted to come back to the Aggies but there was no scholarship left for him. Now, he's with the Miners.

“It had nothing to do with the coaches or anything like that,” Williams said. “I wanted to do both sports. I have a lot of love for track and wanted to get back involved with it.”

Williams, who runs the 100-meter and 200-meter races, is currently redshirting with the Miners — he won't suit up in Saturday's game at AMS — and is running with the practice squad. He said that he hopes run track for UTEP as well.

“Everything's good so far,” Williams said. “I like coach (Mike) Price a lot and his offense. I'm enjoying myself.”

Williams said that last year's freshman year at NMSU was a positive one.

“It was great,” he said. “It was something I always wanted to do. Just to line up with those other great receivers, with a guy like Chris Williams. It was a great experience, I learned a lot and I'll never forget it.”

Not a big deal.
He'll change his mind again and run out of eligibility before he ever hits the field.

So how are tickets sales going for this years Battle of I-10?

Wow, I didn't know he ended up at utep. I was never as high on him as some of the other posters on here, i'd be interested in knowing how they feel about him now?

Some people are very heartless. Here we have two post talking about the kid is going to fail. Well im happy for the kid he got back into a football program and they gone let him run track. I know LaVorick Williams will make it to the nfl in nmsu will see him next year in the rival game. And from what I hear Coach Mike Price like the kid in is very excited for him to start playing after this redshirt year.

Pure haters you first two post. LaVorick Williams keep your head up son. I would have like to see him back in a aggies uniform but im glad to see him back on track. He was just so respectful in quiet noome should have nothing bad to say about the kid. And on top of that he have a shot of being the best WR in the nation after his redshirt season because I know he going to take advantage of this.

8:05--Best receiver in the nation. Really? Are you his relative?

And you know what, it is bull that he goes to a bitter rival. Theres a ton of other schools that have track and football. And with his NFL potential, they should all be interested in him right? I hope the Aggies shut him down and smack him in the mouth every time they play him. This is intentional on his part.

Haha, ok first off the kid had 52 yards over 9 games, and that was in a passing offensive scheme. Where in that stat line do you project NFL stardom?

Come on, a shot at the best wr in the nation, really? Besides the kids real focus, up to this year has been track, thats why he kept wanting to leave State. He needs to focus on football if he wants to be in the top 100 receivers in the nation.

Can we get a ticket sales update? Everyone always asks for one, and we never get an answer. Maybe I'm crazy, but isnt it as simple as placing a phone call?

Anon, you're not crazy, it is about placing a phone call, which I have done to the ticket office and Associate AD Steve Macy.

Ticket office didn't have an exact figure and I have not heard back from Steve. Thanks for the support!
