Football update

What's up people. Spoke to Boston about football staff's future. He didn't say anything too compelling but he didn't give a vote of confidence either

Teddy,
Way to pony up!
This is a hot topic and we appreciate you giving us bits and pieces! Keep it up!

Sounds like Big Mac is not happy and is dissapointed just like all of us.
We need to put a permanent red shirt on the coaching staff (defense) next year!

I'm glad to hear we are working on Wyoming.
I can deal w/ one AA game but, two? C'mon!
So our non-conf schedule looks like this:
-AA Team (SE LA, again)
-UNM
-@ UTEP
- Wyoming
- @ Nebraska
Conference schedule:
- Hawaii
-LA Tech
-@Fresno
-@Idaho
- Boise
-@Utah St
- San Jose

Not bad! Now is there anyway we can get an off week in the middle of the season?
The last two years our off weeks were in week 12 and week 13.
C'mon WAC, give us a break!

Great job with the Football Commentary, I hope that column becomes a permanent Sports outlet for all things Aggie.

It is tough to start looking to next year, but feels oddly good to know we are still undefeated in 2008!

I have thought a lot about the state of Aggieland, and won't lie about being too hopeful. I had high expectations for the football program this year, and I understand we were "this close," but now it seems like deja vu all over again.

I think it is funny that Boston is acting like he is going to evaluate "like he does every year" and make the best decision for Aggie fans. What? What has he been doing since he started re-building the Aggies? Giving Mumme free reign could of paid off big this year but didn't. I guess Boston wasn't privy to Mumme's plans.

I think we are in a vicious cycle of poor fan support for a poor product and poor recruiting because of poor performance. Holbrook is legit, but when he struggled against SELU I think I just looked the other way, blinded by the promise of a Heisman Trophy candidate hidden in the desert. Now I wish I would just taken the blue(crimson) pill.

If Dr. Boston doesn't stop the bleeding in this football program, then his lack of good judgment will come under serious scrutiny. You don't kill a snake by cutting off its tail--the head must be destroyed. Making assistant coaching changes without removing Mumme will give us more of the same: poor head coaching and irresponsibility. Mumme must go! Too many dissappointed Aggie fans, both alumni, students, and citizens of Las Cruces, will not accept the promise of a rehabilitated football program with the same head coach who is stuck in his losing ways. Dr. Boston, please have the courage to do the right thing--let Mumme go and save NMSU's football!

Enough negative talk about the FB team.
It's almost game day and we need to show up and support our team. I really hope they can pay us back w/ a win!

Go to the game and stick around at least till halftime.
The unversity will be honoring students/ staff that are Iraq veterans at halftime.

It's a way of honoring those that are willing to give their lives for our country and in the process, you get to watch a pretty good FB game!

Utah St. hasn't won a game, has a 16 game losing streak and they play us and Idaho to close the season.

Remember that little run we made at the end of the year and, won the last two games? We ended the season with Wins @ Utah St and LaTech.

Utah St. feels these are two winnable games and will come out swinging.

Our team better not take the UtAgs lightly.
They are gonna come after us and we better be ready for a dog fight!
Especially w/ no CW and no DD at WR's!

OK,We've suffered three years of losing AirRaid football,so waiting three weeks is nothing-but come the first week of December-it's Judgement Day for Coach Mumme & company. Can Mr. Boston at least promise to do that for the sake of our football program?

Hal Mumme is going to be our coach next year. There might be some changes, but I don't think Boston would fire Mumme after three years. We are going in the right direction. Injuries, and the APR have killed us this year. Last season we had no key injuries to anyone on offense, and that was why we were so good.

Last year we were good? 4-8,with 2 of those wins D 1AA colleges? No defense then,& no "D" now!! 2007-4 wins, same scenario with injuries. And 3 blowout defeats-are we talking about the same Aggie football team?

If Wyoming is scheduled as mentioned then there will be no Division II schools on our schedule next year. We will also be playing at Nevada, so with the eight conference games plus the 4 non-conf. games mentioned above will round out the 12 game schedule. We had 13 games this year because we had one at Hawaii that does not count against the NCAA 12 maximum.

I think last year, we caught some teams off guard we hung with them.

This year people took us a bit more serious and look what happened.

Barring another 50 point loss this weekend. Mumme is not going anywhere...this year.
Widenhoffer and some of his assistants are toast.

Think about a bit.
Offensively we are very close to something special.
Chase, CW, AJ, Buries, etc. are Seniors next year. You don't see players like that come to NMSU like this bunch.

If we get rid of Mumme and what do you do?
Do you bring in a new guy and teach these Seniors a new offense or, do you keep him, make some changes on D and have a do or die season?

It's only logical.
C'mon, quit w/ the negative talk, go to the game lets show the guys up North that real Aggies are in the South!

I'm no Mumme fan, but all of you who think he is gone are dreaming. Kudos to Teddy for pressing the topic, but rest assured, that will have NO bearing on Dr. Boston's decision. Zilch, zero, nada. It will simply come down to money. Buying out Mumme from the remaining two years of his contract and starting over with a new coach simply does not make sence. And if you would rather not consider the almighty $ factor, read Vic's arguments. He's right on target.

All things being equal, I would also agree that retaining or firing Mumme comes down to money--but this is not the only consideration. The reputation of NMSU and morale of the football program is at stake among other important factors. If Dr. Martin and Dr. Boston compromise the football future of NMSU football over a few dollars, then they'll get what they deserve: more of the same. Mumme is the same bad coach he was at Kentucky. His coaching patterns, making excuses, and blaming players are unchanged. Please read the book, "Fourth Down and Life to Go" by Tony Franklin, a former Mumme assistant, and you will clearly see that Mumme is going to destroy, not build, NMSU's football program. In addition to being a bad coach, he carries a lot of personal baggage that we don't need dumped on our program. Show this guy the door and lets get a fresh start with a coach who values a balance attack on offense and understand that defense wins games!

Hmmm, with all 12 opponents next year being from Div-1, we could be in big trouble. Perhaps Dr. Boston will factor this into his decison for next year. If he decides to let Mumme go another year, the decision will most likely be easy after next year. The only problem is that after next year, our average attendance will only be about 5,000 fans which will make it hard to get the fan base back for any coach we hire.

Unless we lose against both Utah State and Fresno State Mumme will be the coach next year. I believe next year is the make or break year for Mumme. We will be a senior team and if he can't win with a senior team then I believe he will be let go after next year.

..UTAGS SNAP 17 GAME LOSING STREAK..is THIS the sports headline you want to see in Sunday's paper?? Light a fire under our team-get them fired up to play for once, coaching staff!!

Anonymous said...

OK,my bad-it was only a 16-game losing streak that was broken. Is this 4-game losing skid just the beginning? I would think so...

Send Mumme and his towel to the shower. Time for a change.
