NMSU's game against Nevada tonight will be determined strictly by NMSU's ability to stop Luke Lippincott on the ground.
Lippincott has had a huge year for Nevada and his performance generally opens up everything else in the Wolf Pack's offense, especially for quarterback Colin Kaepernick. I say Lippincott runs for 150 yards and two TD's, Kaepernick runs for at least 75 yards and throws for roughly 275 and Nevada wins 34-30.
The Aggies should be able to throw on the Wolf Pack and keep the game close through the air. But they need big performances from Nick Cleaver and A.J. Harris in the receiving game.
NMSU will be hurt by special teams again. And they won't be able to stop Nevada's offense.

You hit the nail on the head with your Commentary in the paper. I will be looking for signs that we can get the 3 out of 4 we need to go bowling. I hope to see some Aggie pride tonight. Go Aggies.
I'm curious to see how the team responds in a "must win" game.
I hope they can play better this time around on ESPN.
The crowd? It will be almost no-existent.
The bandwagon has thrown in the towel.
Only 12K REAL will show up! See you at the game.
Vic
I think it is safe to say that we won't beable to "stop" any offense of the rest of the season. The question is, can we slow them down, and get a few key stops, and let the offense (when it shows up) take over.
Tonight really is make or break for this team in regards to their bowl eligibility. We can beat Nevada, but we are going to have to play mistake free oon offense, and punch the ball in the endzone much more often than we have been. Boy, can I state the obvious, or what?
GO AGGIES!!!!
I think it is interesting how the home crowd could throw in the towel on a team yet to lose at home this season.
Mercury -
That commentary was for you. Your last post made me think a little. Glad you liked it.
It's a shame that a team that has not lost a game at home can only hope for 15,000 fans. If they want a white out they would have to spray the seats white! I hope some day the Aggies will have a great team and some of the fair weather fans will not be able to buy a ticket. I don't think I will live to see that.
That's right!
We are undeafeted at home and a 5 game, home winning streak.
If people don't show to see a team that has yet to lose at home. They're a bunch "fair weathered" fans.
Go see Mayfield kill Gadsden or come watch a dog fight at Aggie Memorial!
I bleed Crimson. Do you?
Vic
If the Aggies put up another Boise State like performance on Friday, then it's pretty much over for local fan support this season. The turnout for Fresno State will be much lower-no one will pay money to see that much humiliation.
teddy i love this blog because you listen to your readers. You take suggestions and comments, and put them in print. Makes following sports that much more interactive. keep up the good work.
p.s. re: Jason Grove. You two should just consolidate on one blog. I enjoy having a one stop shop for Cruces sports.
Those are the games that just rip your heart out. That last drive was a thing of beauty, but that field goal was the nastiest thing I've ever seen. It's too bad too, they really had a shot tonight.
It's just one of those typical Aggie losses though, where we can easily put up 38 but still lose. DEFENSE, we need some defense, it was frustrating to see them answer everything NMSU did out there.
Besides the kick, which I knew we would miss; is the terrible call before then. A friggin run? You kiddin' me? We moved the ball so effectively that drive and we give up on the last play. What a shame. Regardless, I love this team. Color me stupid.
That missed field goal was a dead duck!
I honestly thought it had been partially blocked. It was just the ugliest kick I've ever seen.
What's the deal w/ the kick offs!
Jastram either kicks it way short or out of bounds.
He kicks like a SISSY! There's a 12 year girl at the local Y, that kicks better than he does.
Sounds like you nailed it. Good job!
-Aggie Glare
I agree with your coments on the kickoffs, but please don't blame Jastram. He is very young and only doing what his kicking coach Roy Gerela is telling him to do. Every time without fail, when Gerela gets a hold of a good kicker he ruins him with his inept coaching. Look at the kicking record since Gerela has been there. It's a total joke! He has had plenty of good talent to work with, but just can't get it together. No more excuses, I say fire him! We have had enough of this crap! This isn't Pop Warner or High School anymore, even though it appears to be. It's time to get serious and weed out these coaches that are not helping this team and just cashing a paycheck on Friday. Something has to be done!!
Let's take it easy on Paul Young. He did win the ARK. PB game for us, remember?
He was just outside his comfort zone and pushed it.
How does the center get nailed for "movement before the snap," twice in one game and on the final drive?
Isn't he the one with the ball before the snap?
The big play was Woods giving up on a play before the 1/2. That TD was the difference.
Your on defense! Hit him or push him out off bounds!
The refs aren't gonna give us anything, play hard until the final whistle!
Teddy, it appeared on TV that about 4,000 seats got filled. Do you know the exact #?
The box score said the attendance was 12,268, so that would leave, what, about, 27,000 empty seats. That sounds about right.
I guess one of the positives that we can all take from this season is that we did beat UTEP, that has to count for something. Now, this year, when we go to the Don Haskins Center and beat them again, they won't be able to say "yeah, well, we got you in football, that's all that counts." So I'm willing to let the fact that we'll miss a bowl game again go, because UTEP has nothing to fall back on.
So is the season in the tank?
We have to win @ SJSU. Both Utah St. and Fresno St. are at home.
We have won only ONE road game in the Mumme era and have not won on the road this year.
What makes us think, the team can just go and beat, and out coach, Dick Tomey in there house??
Utah St. may be the W we get this year. Looks like we will end up in 7th place, AKA, WAC Bottom Feeders.
Since Mumme got here, he has promised a lot and delivered on nothing.
He better pull a rabbit outta his rear end if he wants to save his job next year!
The Truth
I was happy with the Aggie effort Friday, just not the outcome. It was a career long for Young, so no real fault there. The run call before the missed kick was supposd to trip the Wolfpack up, but I guess that didn't go according to plan. The Aggies seemed to play flat through most of the first half, and the crowd could of helped out there. Much has been made about the Aggies playing on Fridays and how that day is High School football day, but we need to get our priorities straight here in Las Cruces. To have the Aggies on National TV is supposed to be a time to showcase the Aggie pride. I for one was happy to see the Aggies on TV with a chance to win the game. It has been that kind of year and just chalk it up to experience. Mumme proved he can run an offense, but the defense should be better by now. If we go 3-3 the rest of the way we go bowling. Keep hope alive!
Besiodes the failed FG at game's end,the other play that no one has brought up yet was on defense where the Aggie cornerback ,instead of shoving the reciever out of bounds, slows down and starts pointing to the end line-and allowed to let the reciever go in for the touchdown. Were I still coaching,i would (even today) be giving him an earful for the rest of this week on my "doghouse list"!
The issue of Chris Woods not pursuing the receiver on the 64-yard TD pass is addressed in my follow article. Here's the link
