Woods injury

NMSU head football coach Hal Mumme said that cornerback Chris Woods will need shoulder surgery and will be out for the start of the 2008 season.

Mumme said he was unsure when Woods would return but it seems doubtful he'll be back for the start of the year.

The loss of Woods is significant, simply because he was a starting player at a position that seems to lack depth. Davon House and Vincent Butler have seen playing time so far this spring and the team has also been working Marvin Betts into the cornerback rotation.

I hope he gets well soon.
How about Junior Fasavalu? He got hurt last year. Is he going to be able to help?

Good question about Junior. I was wondering myself about his status. I'll figure that out.

Teddy, why isn't Chris Williams practicing? Is he healthy?

He's fine for all I know. He's fielded some punts. They don't want him getting dinged up during a worthless scrimmage. Most of the big-time guys have seen limited time during the scrimmage.

I remember a big push to recruit Chris Williams' little brother out of Rio Rancho. He was trying to decide between a college career in basketball or football ... do you know whatever happened to him?

Marcos Williams (Chris' brother) has decided to attend Midland Junior College for basketball. He will be enrolling this fall. JUCO gain NMSU loss...he could have played either sport at NMSU and he wouldn't come with baggage.

Anon 6:12, we know Mumme wanted him, but you say he could played either sport here. Was Menzies ever interested in on the kid?

Don't think Menzies offered Marcos anything. Guess he wasn't enough or a challenge...no jail record and good academics.

It's Marcus Williams, right? And I don't think the younger Williams brother was D1 ready for basketball. Hopefully he'll improve in JC, and the Aggies will pursue.

Marcus is a D1 talent. It's all about exposure, location and hype! Wasn't Chris "too small" for D1 football?

Marcus will mature into a D1 talent. I just don't think he was ready at this point in the game. He's a fine athlete.

Don't be such homers.
He's small, and if he had anything to offer for DI ball, he'd have gotten an offer from NMSU.

He was offered a scholarship to play football I believe here, but not basketball. Marcus will end up playing at a D1 school, he just needs a couple of years.

Teddy calls the defense 3 5 3.
Felix calls it, 3 3 5.

So what is it? Is it 5 linebackers or 5 Defensive backs?

If you guys are going to cover NMSU FB. You guys should at least get the facts together!
Do you guys even understand FB?

A little internal communication within the Sun News would be nice for us readers!
