Nothing official but....

I have heard that Hawkins is good to go. Not from a qualified source though. We'll see...

Nothing official...maybe you should start speculating on the outcome. Maybe you should of been talking about this possibility last week instead of the day after grades come out and the guys aren't on the bus. This is becoming typical behavior by the Sun-"News." Then you wonder how the Journal gets scoops on OUR Athletic Department. Whether this simply "works itself out" or not, the damage is done. Get some quotes from some prominent boosters, if you can find one. It's like saying someone on the team had a baby today, while the last nine months we wondered why they were gaining wait. Go ask your "source" to write an article for the paper based on what they know, so atleast it is first hand information. Ridiculous. I'm done.

Dude dont freak out. About an hour after he posted that blog, he put up an article giving quotes from Boston saying he will be playing tomorrow. Here is the article. All hes doing is giving us the information he has when he has it. IMO its better than nothing. Chill out.

Justin Hawkins to play on Saturday at Louisville (11:47 p.m.)

New Mexico State University Athletics Director McKinley Boston confirmed Friday morning that Aggie forward Justin Hawkins will play in Saturday's game at Louisville.

Hawkins' status was initially in doubt because of academic issues following NMSU's fall semester. The player returned to Las Cruces following the team's Wednesday night loss to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He will be rejoining the Aggies prior to their game against Louisville, which tips off at noon (MST).

"Justin Hawkins will be playing tomorrow," Boston said. "His issues have been cleared on our end. He will be eligible to play for the remainder of the year."

Two other players, senior center Hatila Passos and junior guard Paris Carter, are facing similar situations as Hawkins. Both of them remain in a state of flux and appear unlikely to appear in Saturday's contest.

"(Passos and Carter) will remain in Las Cruces until their issues are resolved," Boston said.

Boston continued to stress that such circumstances are common at universities throughout the country. Second semester eligibility begins on Jan. 15.

The Aggies currently stand at 5-8 on the season.

For God's sake, r.h. -- this is a blog, not a published article. All T was trying to do was keep Aggie fans up to date...I think it's great.

m.h. rip, learn how to spell. It's "weight", not "wait". Learn to spell and then you will have credibility for criticizing others.

"Wait"...you mean weight...wow, were you educated around here?

TEd-

Why has the Las Cruces Sun News sports Dept get snopped by ABQ TV on the Mumme contract extention and now El Paso TV has video and news about Herb Hope being able to play. Come on please step up....

Wow! What a change of events! Hawkins is cleared and now Pope might be cleared. I hope everything is legit.

What is the status on Passos or Carter?

Boston said that Passos and Carter are not playing against Louisville

Are Passos and Carter ineligible due to grades or Suspended for breaking team rules? This year has already been a disappointment, and the last thing our community wants is this type of publicity. So, what is true?

Teddy said...

They're ineligible because of grades...

Any truth to the rumors that the NCAA filed an injunction/appeal against Pope and NMSU?

KDBC reported that Pasos & Carter are suspended due to violation of team rules.

The reason Tony Samuels is not here is due, to his players not graduating/ APR.
I've been critical of Mumme for the on field performance. Yet, I have to give him kudos for the classroom performance of his players!

It is the players responsibility to take care of their grades but, th coaches must oversee them and make sure they use study, tutors, etc.

Menzies personality leads me to believe that, he assumes things are hunky dory and everything will just fall into place.
Boy, was he ever wrong!

You can't a assume a team will win based on talent alone and, that kids are taking care of biz just cause they're enrolled in school.

You need to do a better job on the court and in class, Marvin Menso!

BTW,
Has anyone seen Fred Peete?
I see a #12 out there but, is not the same Mr. Clutch from a year ago.
Please put an APB or check the milk cartons for Peete!

Just chill. I thought the weight vs. wait thing was clever. Maybe some quotations around "wait" would of made it clear that I am tired of waiting for the news (i.e. baby). There are plenty of papers that speculate on the sticky situations their teams are in. Our paper does not do that, and in my opinion that is a mistake. Opinionated writers is what makes reading the paper entertaining. Not So Fast My Friend, we have none of that here in LC.

I think we all need to get with it. The paper needs to give an opinion on what is going on, or dig at the truth and report that. Quotes from Boston does not the truth make. Nothing to see here, Boston said so. Again, not informative in the least. If you let Boston manipulate the situation he will do something like give Mumme an extension just to see if anyone cares. I still can't belive he got away with that, but I digress.

Where LC fans have it right is not supporting a team that is giving the impression that they are doing something shady. Reading that Pope took "alternative" classes in high school does not make me feel any better about this. Hearing that Passos and Carter are no longer on the team is also a red flag. Are we trying to avoid NCAA violations by cutting ties with some questionable behavior? I'm starting to think so. Convince me otherwise.

Framing an injunction as an NMSU victory is also troubling. We are starting to seem desparate, right? After all this back-bending is Pope staying? Does anyone know? I "are" an Aggie fan, but that is becoming a hard thing to defend.
