Offensive coordinator; The coaching staff

The New Mexico State Aggies will conduct interviews this weekend with five or six candidates for the offensive coordinator position with the football team.

Head coach DeWayne Walker said all but one of the candidates has prior experience as a college coordinator.

"I'm not too concerned with big names or big resumes," Walker said. "I'm looking at it more from a production standpoint. We want someone who wants to be here and wants to get things done."

Next season, Walker said he would like to see an offense that still incorporates the running game, although one which also is more creative in its playcalling, both in personnel groupings and in scheme. The new coordinator will run the offense as well as coach the quarterbacks. Walker stressed the importance of coaching up and developing the quarterback position.

The Aggie staff will also have a slightly different look next season, with R. Todd Littlejohn moving over from cornerbacks coach to running backs coach. Walker said the team will hire a new cornerbacks coach who will team with safeties coach Mike Rutenberg in the secondary.

Anybody interested in how the BCS bowl money is distributed to non-AQ conferences. Seems to me that this can help the AD budget shortfall.

I agree we all want to hear a name or to pop up. I hope we get a good one. Rosie was a pure bust.

$560,000 is a much needed shot in the arm for the AD.

If the guy i hear is true, he is a good one!

I heard Tom Craft's name brought up and I would assume that is pure gossip because he runs a spread offense which is exactly what we are trying to get away from.

It doesn't appear that way. Walker said that he would remain the defensive coordinator this season and said that he thought it was a good move to oversee the defense last year.

He added that this year he will look to delegate more to his defensive coaches as he moves into his second season as head coach of the Aggies.

If you look at Tom Craft's Offensive Stats for 2009, it seems pretty balanced.

540 rushing attempts and 430 passing attempts for the season.

Just what Walker wants. BTW, how did this rumor start?

Damn Im not to familiar with Craft but I like this, a small quote according to his wiki page. (I know, wiki isnt the best source)

"While at Palomar, Craft taught and coached 7 All-American Quarterbacks, which include: Duffy Daughtery, Scott Barrick, Brett Salisbury, Andy Loveland, Tom Luginbill, Greg Cicero, and Andy Goodenough. No other Junior College coach in history has produced so many All-Americans."

Sounds just like what we need if its true.

It is not Tom Craft, he will not be the next OC at NMSU!

I hear they are going to hire a WR coach also and move staff around for the 9th position. that is addition to a new QB/oc coach.
