Win streak

I was in Las Cruces for the game, covering the women's game. But another big win for the Aggies. Boise beat Nevada tonight so things look good for at least the No. 2 seed (which is important since the Aggies own Boise for a potential semifinal game), assuming the Aggies don't revert back to their inconsistent ways from here on out, but their four-game streak matches the longest of the season, and they play a terrible Long Beach State team at home next Saturday, getting more than a week to rest up before playing at Nevada on Feb. 28.

So what stood out to you who listened or watched? since I was watching the Aggie women, help me out.

Don't get to watch any games but I try and follow the aggies from wherever i am. It was great to see they finally went on a road game and played to their caliber. Besides the BSU game and last night, they have been horrible on the road. If they can stay consistant as you have pointed out they will be playing in the post season. Wish them luck

I was traveling, so did not get to watch/listen. While the winning streak is encouraging, I'm more impressed with the way we are playing and the margin of victory the past three games. This is what we all anticipated when we were in football doldrums. Go Aggies!!

So we've finally got a team that treats road games like a business trip-go take care of what needs to be done, and get home without incidents.and the guard play is stepping up. Not looking past Long Beach(no chance of tv?)even the score with Nevada & Hawaii-Az Aggie

I was also at the womens game. I listened to the first half on the radio and saw highlights on tv. From what I can tell is the team is playing as a team and looks like they are having alot of fun sharing the ball. The team has averaged over 88 points a game in their four game winning streak, thus with all the key players getting between 8 to 20 points each per game helps everybody's attitude.

The inside game is the difference.
When our bigs are taking care of business, everything opens up.

The team is now playing "we" ball!
Go Aggies!

Good game by the Aggies. For those who you not familiar, there is a site -- www.channelsurfing.net -- that you can occasionally find the game on. I'm hoping, since for some reason it won't be on AggieVision, that the Nevada game will be on this site.

Getting a win is always good, but I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet. Don't get me wrong, I'm an Aggie, and I think these guys are coming around.

My point is that this wasn't that great of a win. A bad La Tech team only had 7 healthy bodies, and even still they trimmed a 20 point lead to 5 in the second half. The Aggies started to fold a la the SJSU game, but again their talent and physicality prevailed.

This league is better than the country is giving it credit, and by no means is a lock for the Aggies to win. Personally, I think Reno is the team to avoind come March 11th, and NMSU has a lot of work to do between now & then.

Spontaneous comments between Jack Nixon and Coach Menzies on the postgame wrap-up were as revealing as they were unrehearsed. Jack sees good team chemistry now, evidenced by giving Player of the Game nod to JayDee Luster's 4 assists in 12 mins after time on the pine. Coach said the team needs the time off (before Reno) to get Herb Pope operating smoothly in the offensive sets. Both know that team play often overcomes better talent in hoops.

Hawaii beat Utah state last night!
The WAC #1 is wide open.

NMSU must beat Nevada and then win games they are expected to win.

The Aggies are playing really well.
I'm curious to see how they respond in Reno to a team that took them behind the woodshed last month?

The Aggies are in the driver's seat for at least a tie for the WAC's regular season crown. Capturing that crown hinges on the Nevada game.

I'm hoping that Menzies will go to his bench earlier and not wait until the final minute of the game before we see the far side of the bench. There are some shooters down there we may need in game shape should it come down to hitting some 3s at the end of a game.

Don't think the La Tech game is similar to SJSU at all. La Tech never got within 10 points the last eight minutes of the game (all I could watch), was usually down 14-16 points, and we won by 20 points. Against SJSU, we needed a bucket in the last few seconds to win. Totally different performances. Like I said, I'm more impressed with the way we're winning than the winning streak itself.

Now to my concern. This "break" in the schedule, where our only game in two weeks is against a lousy LBSU team, could not come at a worse time. NMSU is finally playing good ball, and a long lay off can't be good for the consistency we seem to have finally captured, especially in a year where our team has been most inconsistent. Could not think of a worse way to get ready for a road trip to Nevada, which I feel is the only WAC team that can play with our bigs. Hopefully Menzies is smarter than I think, and he has a good game plan, which includes the two weeks of preparation leading up to the Nevada game.

NMSU blew 2 18 pt leads in the San Jose Stat game. I think our guys were tired from the Hawaii trip, and you can tell our guys were tired after letting San Jose State back in the game. NMSU didn't even play as good as we can against LTech. I think we could of won by 30.
