My dream....

....Is to see a sellout at this weekend's Aggie football game.

Coach Mumme said it today. He desperately wants a sellout outside of a New Mexico or UTEP game in Las Cruces. And who can blame him? This is a monster game. The Aggies are 1-0 and are coming off a great win. They didn't beat Idaho or Utah State folks. Nevada is a proven WAC program.

On top of that, it's Tough Enough night. That should get some more people in the seats. I really don't think the game will sellout but is 25,000-plus fans too much to ask for?

I think it will be a great game. The teams match up well and, if the Aggies want to go to a bowl, they need to beat a team like San Jose. I respect the Spartan program. Dick Tomey is a veteran coach who has done very well up there during his tenure. And they play stout defense.

It will be a difficult game for the Aggies but after last week's contest and considering that this one's in Las Cruces, you just can't help but feel that it's one NMSU is primed to win. Maybe I'm getting caught up in the moment but I just can't help but get excited for this weekend. Hopefully, Aggie fans feel the same way and fill up the stadium.

A sellout, or at least a big crowd, would be a great thing. But I have such low expectations for my fellow fans that I don't expect it. Of course, last year's "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" game was pretty well attended. So I guess we'll see.

Can you please keep us updated on the ticket sales for this game. I really feel we will have a big crowd after the Nevada win. If NMSU is able to beat San JOse, and Idaho. The Boise State game will be sold out for sure.

Man this game should sell out. It probably wont though. When in any other season have the aggies actually had a little win streak going with a chance to extend it? We already beat UTEP, blew out Alcorn St. and beat Nevada on the road. Its also Tough Enough to Wear Pink which is just a good cause that people should want to help with. What else does this community want? Everyone who is a an Aggie fan and who has some experience with breast cancer should go and show their support.

Also, how bout that volleyball team sweeping Hawaii in Hawaii. Go aggies

NMSU's largest attendance year was 2002. The team went 7-5 and averaged just over 22k.

NMSU is currently averaging 20,900 after two games.
It would be nice if we could beat the 2002 mark.

C'mon people, get your butts to Aggie Memorial this weekend and support the team!

Responders to the last Post that say 6 and 6 guarantees us a bowl need to look at the NCAA rules on bowl eligibility.

Two NCAA rules combine to make it unlikely, though possible, that a team with seven wins will be left out of a bowl game:

Bowl games that have a contract with a conference must select a team with at least seven wins if one is available.

Any bowl berths not already filled by contract must be filled by a team with seven wins before any spare 6-6 team can be accommodated.

So, 6 and 6 only gets us a bowl if there aren't other WAC teams with a 7 and 5 record.

You called it alright...its a "dream." First off you need to have a good football team...we do not. Second, you need to have consistancy...we do not. Third, you have to have a coaching staff that demands credibility, respect, and heart...we do not. So, ultimately, I wholeheartedly agree with you...a sellout crowd this weekend is a "dream."

Any way you look at it, this year's version of the Aggie football team is different. When is the last time NMSU won two road games (and will probably be favored to make that FOUR!)? The Nebraska game was our first and their third, so the score does not tell the full story.

We probably should have beaten UNM, but let's not lose sight of the fact that they match up against us in the worst sort of way for us. They have a power running game. We'll see more of that out of Boise, and to some extent Fresno and LT. Those are our remaining unfavorable matchups. I think we probably have enough overall strength to overcome LT. Not so sure about Fresno, and pretty sure we'll fall short against Boise.

The home field advantage may help us against LT and Fresno, as well as this Saturday against SJSU. Of course that meams we need to get our fans in the stadium.

Since I live 1600+ miles away, I can only get to one game in person, but AggieVision is giving me a chance to see many of the other games.

Teddy, get the Sun News to spring for AggieVision for you so you can see the games that are broadcast.

Everyone, get yourself out there on Saturday and support the team.

NCAA rules were written to be broken. UNM wasn't suppose to play in the New Mexico Bowl two years in row. Lo and behold, they played in it two years in a row.

C'mon people let's get out there and support the Aggies. If for nothing else to help raise money for cancer research.

October 13, 2008 10:45 PM said the loobs made two NM Bowl apps, I wouldnt be suprised to see them make a third straight NM Bowl. They are a middle of the pack MWC team.

I wonder how the NMB committee would try and sell that to espn and co. That said another NMSU UNM game could boost ticket sales, but we seem to be getting ahead of ourselves right now, let's take them one game at a time.

UNM is always breaking the rules, that's why they are on probation for acadamic fraud

Sellout? It's gonna be tough but, 25k is a sure thing!

Go Aggies!

If this game has 20K plus that would be awsome. People have got to forget about UNM, and get out a support this guys!! They play hard they play with emotion. Remember it takes us as fans to help this team get the extra stop in late in the 4th. It takes the fans in the stands being load and crazy to get SJSU state to jump offsides on 3rd and short. Let go people "it takes a village"

I know that i'll be there just like every single game for the last fifteen years. No matter what bad or really bad I support my Alma mater. Unlike many haters. Support the Aggies they will make a bowl game this year for the first time in over forty years with the fans support. The dreamers can stay home with their bad attitudes.

I heard there's around 9k tickets left.
Any truth to this number?

Teddy said...

15,570 tickets have been sold as of 3:15 p.m. Tuesday....

Anonymous said...

Teddy, does the 15,570 include students that will be at the game.

Anonymous said...

20,900 average after two games? Come on now. Who is reporting the numbers? There couldn't have been 4,000 people at the Alcorn State game, no freaking way!

Someone at NMSU is seriously fudging on the number.

Anyway, we ALL need to get our butts out to the games, all the games. We shouldn't be going just because it is a Pink event. This team and other Aggie teams need the fans out there to help get them over the hump and have a true home court/field advantage.

Be real fans!

15,570 tickets have been sold as of 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. That's pretty good, do students still just have to show their i.d. to get in or do they actually get a ticket now? If so, that probably brings us up to 20k.

Let's not forget that Nevada had a near empty stadium and that worked in the visiting teams advantage.

C'mon Aggies, I said it once already let's get out there and support the Aggies, and help raise money for cancer research at the same time.

Hey, Teddy.

I was checking the odds, and the Las Vegas folks have the Spartans as a two and a half point favorite. It seems like the Aggies can't get respect, even when they beat one of the established programs. I think NMSU will win on Saturday, overcoming those odds. In fact, my prediction is a 10 point win. I doubt it will be as high scoring as last week's game. How about 31 to 21?

It is so important that we have good fan support. It is not only this game, but it is building the fan base that is important to a bowl selection committee. We should have a real chance at a bowl this year. I know it smacks of boosterism, but can the Sun News run an article encouraging folks to attend the game?

I would if I could, but I just don't have the audience.

The community needs to get out and support the Aggies and in this game support the Pink moment, it's a good cause.

Fan support in any sport is a real boost to the programs and gives the players incentive to play harder.

Hopefully the Ags will make it to a bowl game this year, I'm looking forward to the trip wherever it may be.

Go Aggies

I don't get the sense that the folks at NMSU are really beating the brush to get people to the game.

Am I mistaken?

Anonymous said...

It's been 24 hours, so what's the ticket count?

I think we will get 25k in the stands.
SJSU spanked NMSU pretty good last year and it was a tough game to watch.
I hope we can finally get them this year.

Teddy said...

That number does not include students. I spoke with Steve Macy today and he said the school is expecting between 21-25,000 fans. But a sellout would still be nice....

Anonymous said...

Come an people, let's get to the stadium, the Pan Am, the diamonds! Let's support these young people who are here to represent NMSU and the Las Cruces community. We need to all be in this together!

Anonymous said...

Teddy is so feinburg. Title Town Sports Talk say 25k will be in the house

Anonymous said...

Steve Macy said that they are expecting near to a sell out now. Can you find out how many tickets have been sold. I plan to buy my tickets in the morning.

Can you update us with the tickets that have been sold so far?
