Utah State

Lets hear some more predition/analysis of today's game. I think Jonathan Gibson is due for a solid outing if he has a chance to hit a couple shots early. He played with a lot of confidence and focus in Logan and was also dialed in defensively on Carroll, which I think helped him on the offensive end. The Aggies also got a lot of easy baskets in that game, which they will certainly need today. If Gibson isn't hitting, J.Y. could see more minutes, or perhaps even get the start for Gibson. I have learned that other than Hawkins and Peete, there is not a single guy you can pencil into the starting lineup this season.

Look for a few less minutes from Pope as he tries to get back into shape, he was clearly winded and out of position a few times early against Nevada during that big run in the first half.

I predict suspensions for USU

It's a toss up as there is no telling which NMSU team will show up. One prediction I do have - Jaycee Carroll will light it up. He was off when we played earlier this season in Logan, so he is due for a big game today. I still like our talent over any team in the WAC, but we desperately need a better showing.

Sounds like there will be a decent crowd, so Menso's boys can't afford another non-competitive outing. If that happens, he can kiss goodbye fan support for the remainder of the home season unless we make the WAC championship. Go Aggies (NMSU Aggies that is)!!

good find anon. Ducharme killed the Aggies on the interior in Logan. Wilkenson had a career game in Logan, but I don't think he can do it himself. Tai Wesley and Carroll might have to do the bulk of the scoring tonight

More on the suspended Utah State players. Stephen DuCharme is third on the team with 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and has played in all 20 games. Desmond Stephens has also appeared in all 20 games. Stephens hit some big 3s in the second half when Jaycee Carroll wasn't hitting. DuCharme scored 13 points and had seven rebounds in that game.
It will be interesting to see how the UtAgs react in the backcourt. Kris Clark will play more minutes most likely and perhaps Carroll will see more time at the point.

Aggie Glare -
Go rub some more baby oil on your Reggie Theus underwear and and cry some salty tears, because Menso is here to stay!

30 pts over USU? Menzies for life.

They did'nt disappoint. Great game all the way around. Hit shots, they kept turnovers to a minimum, rebounded well as usual. Outstanding win. Perhaps the "sleeping giant" has finally awakened.

The Aggies are starting to gel now and it really shows by the final score 100-70. If I were the rest of the WAC I would really be afraid. Menzies is doing a great job with all the distractions he had to deal with. Well said previous post: Menzies for life!

It was a great game. It shows the nature of this team. LOTS of talent, but as they struggle to get the chemistry, they have great games and bad games. As everyone gets to understand their role on the team, they will become more consistent.

In regards to the suspended players. I think Coach Fox did not have a good feel about his ability to beat the Aggies here. So he went ahead with the suspensions to try to provide an excuse for a loss. However the magnitude of the UTAGS loss should give the Aggies momentum should they meet the UTAGS in the WAC tournament. The missing players would not have made that big of difference with the play of the Aggies tonight.

100-70!
That's the team we have been waiting to see all season!

Play like that, and we will roll people every night. Good job boys!

Jaycee Carroll is a good player and I enjoy watching him but, the media refers to him as an "Aggie Killer."
He's 2-5 vs. NMSU. Does 2-5 make you an "Aggie Killer?"
I think not.

What was that?? This is certainly more like the team I've been anticipating, and it finally appeared. 100 points including five players in double digits and two in the 20s, 55% FG%, 61% 3-point FG%, 13 rebound differential, 17 assists, 10 steals, and 9 turnovers. And this was against a good Utah State team - now that's flat out impressive!! Give Menso and his coaching staff credit - they had the guys ready to play. For NMSU to dominate in a critical game was HUGE. Now he needs to find a way for more consistent play. We can't expect our guys to play lights out every game, but I also hope we don't see another Nevada performance either. Our talent is good enough to win the WAC; all we need from the coaches and players is consistency.

And to all the Theus bashers, like anon above (what's with your juvenile-like obsession with Reggie's underwear?), don't forget this is his team (except McKines). But for Aggie fans, especially the Menzies' supporters, it's a happy day. We all finally have witnessed what this team is capable of doing. It gives us hope. Go Aggies!!

Teddy, can you find out what happened to Jahmar? He left the court about 3/4 of the way in the second half during a time out. I watched him walk across the court to the player tunnel, and I don't think he never returned.

Talk about turning it up in a crucial game. The Aggies played well and didn't get down after USU hit essentially every three point shot they put in the air in the first half.

While I do predict we will be upset with the Aggies once again this season, we have finally seen how this team is capable of playing. Herb Pope adds a great athletic dynamic and Hawkins and Gibson are great scorers. In fact, Hawkins might have picked himself up a 2nd round draft pick now that scouts know he has some range.

If we can play with similar intensity for three games in the conference tournament, we will be dancing again. However, I fear the Aggie team we saw against UNT or Nevada will rear its ugly head in one of those games, foreclosing a post season shot.

With all that said, great win! Go Aggies!

He walked off the court because he was mad that the coach kept putting him in the game & pulling him out.

Anonymous said...

IF, that is true about Jahmar Young he should be suspended.

Big Win!
Now is this the team we are going to see from here on out or, is the team that played Nevada going to re-appear?

I really hope we play the rest of the season like we played against USU.

From what I saw, it appeared that Jahmar Young got ejected from the game "unofficially". I don't know what he said to one of the refs after a dead ball, but apparently the ref didn't like it. The ref went over to Menzies and pointed out Young. After this JY walked off the court and into the tunnel. Do you know what happened, Teddy? Looks like Menzies might have sent him to the locker room himself to avoid a potential technical after the ejection.

Boy,they sure looked AWESOME Saturday night, although the guards play was a little shaky at first.Too bad that the only way back to March madness is to win the WAC tournament-with one(two maybe)nonconference wins and 10 losses plus.Too many teams that will get in on their name alone(a certain U of AZ school come to mind)

Actually, it's "Stew" Morrill. By any name, he's a hell of a coach.
