Just a few things

What a win for the Aggies last night. Jahmar Young scores 33? Are you kidding? That young man has been in his fair share of controversy lately, and he just goes out and scores 33? Say what you want, but that's pretty incredible. I wouldn't even be able to hit the rim if I were him right now and he's draining 3's from the parking lot. They're 3-0 in the WAC and Saturday's Utah State game is going to be wild....

As for the recent issues surrounding Young and Chris Cole....Look, I reported what happened out of official documents. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't make anything up. I felt poorly when I saw Menzies' press conference. But I have to report things when they come my way. I reported it at 12:30 midnight. This is Las Cruces, not Los Angeles? It's D-1 bball. Keep it in line....

Teddy, I agree you reported facts. However, what happened to professional courtesy?

Coach Menzies was defending Cole when he called you out. I'm sure if you had called him and told him what you were reporting, he would have simply asked you not to drag Cole's name through the mud. What you did after that is your prerogative.

JY's situation was newsworthy. Cole's not so much. However, I think he would have been a lot more forgiving if you gave him a phone call.

Teddy that is rediculous, I do not feel sorry for you whatsoever. What is the whole situation with Herb Pope? Is he in Las Cruces? why don't you report on him, did you already forget about him? Wake up and become a real reporter

12:30 a.m. -- all the more reason you should have waited until morning to talk with Menzies about the incidents so your report would have some balance. It went out as a headline with dreadful effect...you should have seen the TV newscasts in ABQ!

I don't blame Menzies for being mad. Sun News sports reporters seem hell bent on alienating the Aggie coaches and AD. Grammer certainly did and you are following his lead. You guys are both good writers, but immature with your judgements and common sense. I don't think any Aggie fan wants incidents to be whitewashed or covered up...but when a bad thing happens to or is done by an Aggie athlete, getting some timely background information from those involved is in order.

I have yet to see anything in the Sun News that iterates the points made by Boston or Menzies about the Cole/Young arrests. Why?

Jahmar "Big Johnson" Young can flat out PLAY!!

What a performance last night! Inside, outside, fast breaks, rebounds, he did it all!

The scary part for the WAC is that he's only a freshman!
Utah St. will be ready and those crazy fans are gonna be all over JY.

Stay hungry, stay focused, play hard and GO Southern Aggies!

You are doing a great job of reporting- keep giving us the readers the facts.

Just a few things to mention and then I am done with Aggie Gate. I have read all the articles, blogs, TV interview on KVIA with Coach Menzie and Dr. Boston (thanks anonymous for the link). First of all tough situation for Chris Cole. Going to school with no scholarship and paying his way. Being an NMSU graduate I now the feeling short on money. Jamar Young's case much different. An immature act. Won't know all the facts until we get more information but if he can learn from this experience, can still be a good person. I know coach Menzie was upset that he was not notified so he could tell his story. Coach you have to understand this was not an investigative story. It happened very fast. The university and athletic department did not give out any press releases of possible pending problems with the Cole and Young. This has been brewing for quite a while. I understand you were trying to take care of things internally without drawing any attention. Las Cruces is a good community and you want them to be family. What was reported was from public documents nothing else. Anytime a bench warrant is issued, there is nothing in between other than the individual did not show up in court. Now later on facts will be filled in as to why the persons involved did not show up. You made mention of the reasons in your press conference which was good. Bench warrants I am sure are issued everyday but we never hear of them because it happens to the average Joe. Since our athletes are known in the community especially the mens basketball team, an incident such as these will get reported because they are high profile. Nobody is out to get anybody. As for myself I am not going to pass judgement on anybody until all the facts come out. In the mean time, both Chris Cole and Jamar Young are making contributions to the team. The court system and the university will take the appropriate actions when the time comes. In the mean time both men's and women's basketball teams are playing well and it looks like were set on having a great second half.

Yeah the Aggies are really turning around!!! I hope they play this way the rest of the season!!! For all the people that are mad and turned their backs on the Aggies this season, I hope they win another WAC championship so you all can shut up!!!
Go AGGIES

P.S Not all aggies are bad students I heard Some get 4.0

Teddy you can't have it both ways. Don't try to act like you wanted to contact coach, but you were really concerned that it was 12:30 at night. Give me a break!!! If this is not LA then don't you think the story could have been released later in the morning when you could have called the coach and not disturbed his sleep.

No surprise regarding his performance. Jahmar Young demonstrates sociopathic behavior.
The key characteristics of a sociopath include: (1) having no conscience, (2) inability to treat others as human beings, with feelings and rights.
What gets me is that the coaches and admin knew of this offense since September and did nothing to discipline him. What message does that send JY & others? If a typical worker did that, what would the consequences be? Suspension, firing...
My guess, sadly, is that he will repeat his bad decision-making again.
It will catch up to the program.

With all the off the court distractions I think the Aggies have finally gotten the "its us against the world" attitude and it is bringing them closer as a team. Every player that got in the game contributed. Game on!

Hey Teddy. There is rumor on the Aggie Message Board that Passos is on his way to Utah for the Utah State game Saturday. Can you find out if this rumor is true please?

Maybe JY did what was reported, maybe he didn't. It is a "he-said, she-said" situation. I will wait until the facts come out, if they do, to form an opinion. But this dude played awesome last night.

I also want to say that Iti made a spectacular block towards the end of the game. He's my favorite player, Go Aggies. Way to go Iti

I think you owe Chris Cole an apology.

I also think Chris Cole is owed an apology. By the way how does anyone know that JY wasn't punished in practice for his actions? Punishments can happen without the community knowing also.

Jahmar "Full Monty" Young has got skills!!
This kid is something else!

JD Luster is becoming a great floor general! He's lightning quick, pushing the ball at the right time and making some really good decisions!

I hope Passos gets on the floor. He's a load on the inside and will give us some really good minutes.

You reported the facts and did your job. I love the Aggies, graduated from NMSU in '94 and lived through all the coverups under the McCartney years. Dr. Boston has done a good job of cleaning up messes and making these student athletes accountable for their actions. Coach Menzies and his staff have to show the leadership and discipline these players need to succeed. I drive over from Chandler, AZ 4 or 5 times a year to watch basketball, I love the Aggies. They are off to a great start in the WAC and I'll be in the stands a week from Saturday to watch them take down La Tech. Let's fill up the Pan AM Center and get behind this team, they are looking good, GO AGGIES!!

Pretty sure nmsu'94 is a Loob fan, trolling.

Any real Aggie fan would know that it was the McCarthy years, not the McCartney years.

Unless he's talking about the shame Wings inception brought to the Beatles.

Herb Pope has been cleared by the NCAA!

Aggie fans re-joice, the team that was picked to win the WAC is starting to play really well an is almost full strength!

Beat the UteAgs!

JY did play a hell of a game but the comment of him only being a freshman is kind of right. Well he is a freshman being this is his first year of college BUT damn, the young man is 21 years old!

Anonymous said...

Regarding the comment about JY being punished at practice, well that didn't happen. Remember he just got cleared to practice/play.

I think the LC Sun owes us an apology for hiring this clown. Teddy, I'm having a hard time understanding your Las Cruces/Los Angeles analogy. So what, we're not a big market, so it's ok for you to suck and be an amateur? I guess you're right though, in Los Angeles, you'd be cleaning the trash at the Times. Go back to New York, maybe they could use some shabby reporting back there.
