Injury/suspension updates

All four players who missed all or parts of Saturday night's Auburn game will be back in uniform in two weeks when the team travels to Boise State.

Nick Cleaver, A.J. Harris, Derek Dubois and Jeremiah Williams will miss this weekend's game against Pine Bluff. Cleaver and Harris both suffered serious ankle sprains - not breaks - versus Auburn. They will be held out but will be back the following week.

Both Dubois and Williams missed last week's game against Auburn for violating team rules. What they did is still a mystery. But they will be back against Boise.

The return of all four will obviously be important. Cleaver, AJ and Derek are all big parts of the passing game. The team should handle Pine Bluff with no problem anyway.

Glad to hear AJ and Cleaver's injuries are not serious and will be ready for conference play.

I'm still fuming at Dubois and Jeremiah Williams for there self centered actions!
I'd be dissapointed if Dubois gets his Captain title.
Both have to play their butts off for letting everyone down!

The second half of the Auburn game proved how much we need Dubois and Jeremiah Williams on the field. These players are good kids from good families. Hopefully, they have learned from their suspension and will become more responsible and better student-athletes. I'm glad their suspensions came before conference play. We will need both of these players to contribute big time against Boise State and to help the team's conference run to become bowl-eligible.

So only CW and Brandon Allen will play against Ark. PB?

Those younger kids will have to step up.
I'm curious to see who next years stars will be!

It's weird, even in the second half against Auburn, Allen's playing time was sporadic. You'd think with all the injuries he'd get more looks. Maybe this week he will...What a huge loss of those players against that great Pine Bluff secondary (sarcasm). It's not like they would hold out this group if the team was playing Boise this weekend. It just gives them a chance to rest up Cleaver and Harris and show the outside world that they're doing something about players who got in trouble. The reality is that they're doing it against an inferior opponent who they can beat no matter what.

Seriously, when was the last time we were able to say this? I know it is Ark - PB, but this statement alone tells us we have made improvements to date.

I AM concerned about the kicking woes, but I do have hope. The field goal (including PATs) kidking has the right height to get over defenders arms, and the leg looks strong. He just needs some confidence to get it through the uprights. The biggest hurdle to overcome, IMO, is getting enough height on the ball to keep it from being blocked all the time. I think we have that now (with a freshman to boot).

Maybe Mumme was trying to keep Allen from getting hurt?

I just hope there are no let downs or injuries this week.
Conference play is a whole new season.
We are going to make a run at the WAC title and need everyone on the field and on par!

I'm afraid if it's Gerela coaching the kickers nothing will change! Mumme will not build this kids confidence and Gerela is clueless!!

How can you say Garela is clueless? How many rings does the guy have? He's been there, and done that. To say he's clueless is clueless in and of itself.

Just because of the fact that you have some super bowl rings does not make you a good coach! You can't argue the fact if you go back the last two years since Gerela has been coaching the kickers at NMSU and look at the record. 14 different kickers and a pathetic record.
How can you even argue the point? The kickers he has coached here have all been terrific winners on the previous teams they have played for. There have even been some all state, all conference all everything kickers he and Mumme have ruined!! So again I say Gerela and Mumme are CLUELESS when it come to coaching these great young kickers. You can go RA, RA all you want but you can't prove me wrong, just look at the track record. By the way, why is it that none of the place kickers have returned for a second year the past two years? Something is terribly wrong and I do not think it is the kids that have been trying for these inept coaches! I sincerely hope that these young freshmen can pull it together, but I know how Roy and Hal coach the kickers and it is a absolute joke.

So, I guess a guy who has done it all is clueless. That sounds good, I guess.

As to the kicking woes, I challenge you to show me where these kickers have been good previous to coming to NMSU, where they have kicked off the ground. Paul Young was a good kicker is high school when he was kicking off A TEE. The ONLY kicker we recruited that had been kicking off the ground is working to get his grades up.

This isn't RA RA crap either. It's just realism.

I really don't care what Gerela has done in the past! The only thing REAL here is his track record showing the consistent failure to produce a decent place kicking game. I know that Hal is no big help also.
You see you just validated my point! Why would a D-1A school, knowing they have a total kicking vacancy not recruit some seasoned JC kickers to come in and kick for them until Gerela can get these high school kids ready? (if that's even possible)I know everybody was in love with Kyle Hughes but what's done is done. The fact is they waited to long to get some JC kickers in there. Pooch kicks, and short kickoffs are going to kill us when we play some decent teams!
If you don't know who the previous 9 kickers were, how they performed, and where they came from, I suggest you go back to the previous years rosters and educate yourself! GET REAL!!

I absolutely AM being real here. I know exactly who has been on the roster for the last couple years. None of them, I repeat NONE of them showed ANY ability to kick the ball off the ground prior to coming to NMSU.

Then you say we never recruited a JC kicker who HAD shown the promise of kicking off the ground. Fact of the matter is, that is who KYLE HUGHES was to this team. They took a chance, and were burned. It happens, we move on. I happen to believe Paul Young CAN be the guy. He has a decently strong kick, and gets the ball up. Now, he lacks the confidence, but is that a coaching problem, or an experience problem. To you that is a Coaching problem, and you are entitled to that opinion. My opinion is that he is young, and inexperienced. Hopefully, we will see improvement throughout the season.

Yea, maybe next year Young can do better after Mumme and Gerela get fired! Anything is possible after the Boise St. game!!

Well, this is my opinion. All this back and forth banter about Gerela's ineptness as a coach is just wasted ink. I predict that he and Mumme will be fired at seasons end. 58 to 0 on national TV? D 1-A team? Come on Mr. Boston, get a clue!! What a complete joke!
