Fasavalu out for season

Freshman safety Junior Fasavalu is out for the season after tearing his ACL versus SE Louisiana last week. The injury occurred late in the game on a Southeastern scoring drive.

Injuries in the secondary are exactly what NMSU doesn’t need. Although Fasavalu was a backup, the team appreciated the depth he provided in a thin defensive backfield.

Also, another defensive back note, Cole Martin moved back into the starting lineup at safety with Alex Bernard coming back to cornerback and Vincent Butler being placed as a backup. Butler, a transfer from NMMI, started Week 1. Hal Mumme said it was a situation that could go through change throughout the season.

Too bad about JR.

Anybody imprssed w/ the win over SE Louisiana?
UNM will kill us if we play like that again.

I'd love to hear your reasoning. Anon(3:13). The defense played great, and the offense started clicking. I think we have a great shot at the upset this weekend.

It's impossible to gouge anything from last week. NMSU played a trash team that couldn't move the ball because of a poor QB. UNM played horrible at UTEP. NMSU should beat UNM if the Aggies really feel like they made strides in the offseason.

Sorry for JR's injury. I'm not impressed with NMSU's win over a weak SELA. However, the defense looked much improved. If NMSU is going click on offense against stronger opponents, I think the RB's have to do a better job of picking up the blitz for Chase and rushing the ball. Why was J. Williams, NMSU's leading rusher and most versatile RB, limited to only 3 rushes? Across all RB skills, he is probably the best RB. Could Mumme be saving him for the tougher games?

Teddy,
I hope your right.
UNM beat us by 6 last year due to four turnovers.
If we can take care of the ball and all units are clicking, we have a shot at ending a four game slide!

SELA is no trash team. They have some talent. They have quite a few former D-1 transfers on their team, and their running back came from Texas A&M, so I wouldn't say they were a trash team, because I think they will win some games this year. The Aggie defense just looked better and improved from last year. We have a lot more speed at linebacker, and did you noticed how many times we were in the back field. We missed a lot of sacks, and I think we should of had more than the 5 sacks we had. Offense played poorly, but we still had 440 yards of total offense, and 35 points, and all of that came in the first three quarters, so I'm pretty sure if NMSU don't turn the ball over against UNM that we should win. I don't think UNM will be able to stop our passing game. UNM will stop the run, but won't stop the pass.
