Wilson, Gutierrez could be considered for job

It's believed that New Mexico State has reached out to two former Aggies about sending in applications for the school's vacant head coaching position: Former running backs coach Earnest Wilson and former offensive lineman Polo Gutierrez.

Wilson is currently offensive coordinator at Hampton University, while Gutierrez coaches running backs at Texas-San Antonio.

Thoughts, feelings, analysis? All are welcome.

Seriously?
I think Polo will one day be a good good coach. I think he needs to be an OC first.

Not sure about Wilson. Good recruiter...not very accesible to the community.

Coach Martin is the logical choice.

Gutierrez all the way. he would be an AMAZING COACH since he's a former aggie. good history with the program and the knowledge and love of the game to back it up.

Not one candidate mentioned so far has what it takes to lead NMS anywhere, the dark days of Aggie football will continue.

From the people listed I wld go with Gutierrez! You all fail to realize that hunger and the sheer ability to want to prove oneself wld make him hustle and bring this team to where it shld have been yrs ago!! Although Martin is the logical choice maybe what the Aggies need to take them out of this black cloud is the illogical choice!! Because what they have been doing ( logical?!) obviously hasnt been working!! I think ppl need to open their eyes and see that this program had gone no where but downnnn unfortunate but true...and maybe taking a chance on a young man who actually once played and loved this school wld take this team into a new direction... Food for thought?!?!

I think it's important to note that it's going to be hard for any coach to turn this program around... Not enough money and not enough incentives for recruiting...they are all walking into a negatirive ...

Wow Boston is totally off his rocker if these are the two best candidates. Is there not a successful and proven HC at FCS level that could be intereste?

Hell even Tony Samuel has won a FCS conference title and national acclaim as a Eddie Robinson award winner.

Polo Gutierrez is still cutting his teeth at TX-SA. He is a mid-level position coach with limitted recruiting ties in Texas at best.

Holy Cow we are in trouble for sure....What a joke.....Why not hire Jim Miller from LCHS? Maybe we could give Denvis Manns a call and see what he is doing? Ridiculous.........If those are the choies lets stick with Martin. At least he seems willing to go down with the ship!

Gutierrez is young but he is a go getter! He just might be what this program needs to turn things around. Not only will the school get a lot more attention hiring a young coach but his history with The Aggies makes him a prime candidate despite age. He is a young smart and ambitious coach and has the heart that can lead the Aggies out of the dark!

It would be tremendously irresponsible to name Polo Guitierrez head coach. C'mon ... who the heck threw his name out there!? No disrespect to Polo, but maybe a decade more in the coaching field and then apply.
I do feel pretty confident with Doug Martin. I think that is a solid hire.
Ernest Wilson: He would be welcome as well. He's tough; he's a good person; a good role model and knows college football. I actually would be happy with either Wilson or Martin. Wilson seemed to fit Las Cruces and the players respected him. I know this because I worked with him 2005-2007.

SERIOUSLY! Gutierrez would be a great fresh start for a terrific new era! He has the school's heart in his. He has been involved with football all his life. Though he has only been coaching awhile he worked under Coker as an unpaid assistant for quite awhile before he was hired. He has a great work ethic and he worked from inception to a pretty good season with the new UTSA program. You can expect more of the same if you stay with the same. Want a new record? Start with a new man. Gutierrez!

I feel like the same person is posting over and over again in support of Polo.

I suspect Polo Gutierrez is posting his thoughts as "Anonymous".
