Hal Mumme

What terrible news that former Aggie football coach Hal Mumme is sick with prostate cancer.

It's incredible about Hal. As a coach, everyone had their opinion about his ability. The reality is that when I heard the news, all the coaching stuff became incredibly unimportant and irrelevant to me.

I wish Hal the best in fighting the battle and coming out on top. I knew him personally and the news caught me off guard. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

That's unfortunate and I hope he gets better and lives a normal life.

We're a competitive bunch and we want our football team to be successful, so yeah ... we are glad he's not the head coach anymore, but when it comes to somebody's life, it is much more important than sports entertainment. I hope I speak for everybody when I say he is in our thoughts and we will be pulling for him to beat the prostate cancer.

He apparantly held off treatment until after the season, which he admits was a dumb thing to do. But he put the team ahead of himself and all that was weighing on his mind probably makes the play calling, etc. more understandable . Good Luck Coach

I wish he would have come out publicly in August so, the team, school and community could use this as a rally point and given him support instead of doing it all by himself.

Anyways, what's done is done. Good luck Coach, your in our thoughts and prayers!

There are more important things besides college football or basketball etc. and yet we act like wins and losses are the most important thing. The coaches and players are people just like us who do the best they can sometimes under really bad conditions with all kinds of problems. I do not attend games anymore because of the verbal crap that takes place and because I believe that a college degree is more important than some damn game. And I played college football and love the game. I think all teams should be like Div.II or Div.III and just go out to have fun. But of course the fans will not allow that!

I agree that life is more important than football. I hope Mumme beats his cancer. However, if you want Divison I football to be more like Division II or III and just let the players "have fun", then the players should pay their own way at the same time. I didn't have the privilege or luxury of playing college football and having a free ride scholarship like most Division I football players do. I had to return to college as an older student and work two jobs at the same time to get my degree. I couldn't afford school when I was younger because I wasn't a jock on scholarship and it was impossible to get enough financial aid with my parents' income being a reflection on me. If a football player doesn't like the pressure of Division I, they can always transfer to a Division III school and pay their own way and have all the fun they want.

Div. II gives scholarships too

I'm aware that Division II gives scholarships too, that's why I said players can go to a Division III school and pay their own way.

As much as I disliked Hal for what he did to my kid when he played there, I sincerely hope he wins his battle with cancer. This is a real must win for him. Good luck Hal.

Puts like into perspective. You never know what people are going through. I sad some harsh things about Hal and know those things sound very petty. God Bless to Hal. Things never are what they seem and we all need to take a step back an put sports into perspective....in all reality it really doesn't matter. Just have fun with life and do your best.
