LaVorick Williams

On my last post on cornerback Eric Hunter, a reader (IC) asked what's up with LaVorick Williams.

It turns out that Williams is not going to be on the Aggies after all. According to coach DeWayne Walker, the Aggies weren't in a position to give Williams the full scholarship the wide receiver needed.

Fans were excited about Williams being back in the fold after it seemed like he would leave the program with the departure of former coach Hal Mumme. At the end of the day, the receiver won't be in Las Cruces.

That's too bad.
However, that's what you get when you transfer for a semester and then decide to return.

As much as I wanted to see him in Crimson, NMSU did what they had to do when (scholarship wise) he left.
Teenagers, figure them out!

Sadly, the situation is Williams' fault for leaving in the first place. With the scholarship limitations caused by the lingering APR issues, can't blame Walker for not being able to accomodate Williams.

Nice life lesson here. You can't flip flop and expect the world to hold still for you. It seems like it cost him his full scholarship. It would have been nice to have him on the team.

Thanks for the follow up Teddy. So his return was contingent on a full scholarship? Seems unfortunate, I was one who was a wait and see guy on LW, but was excited that he would be coming back. Any word on where he is or what he is doing?

Teddy he signed with utep..... got peoples telling me... also david quiroga very upset to move from wideout to Safety

I'm sure NMSU and Williams will be fine without each other.

I'd prefer the scholarship go to a really good kicker or offensive/defensive lineman anyway.

Yea it was a nice lesson learn but we cant blame a teenage kid for tryin to come back to nmsu after he was miss inform by the texas tech track coaches. But im sure Lavorick Williams will be fine in we will hear about him in the nfl in the future because the kid work hard and he very talent. As for Coach Walker im sure if a Califoria kid was in the same position as lavorick im sure he would have give the kid the scholarship. We need to start getin kid from everywhere not just califoria.

I am not surprised. There is real doubt about whether he wanted to be here.

Re: Schedules. Just saw this on Matt Hinton's blog.

Arizona State is scrambling to find a new opponent for Sept. 11, 2010, after San Jose State dropped the Devils to play Wisconsin. Wouldn't that be a good opportunity for the Aggies to pick up a money game and not have to travel across the country...? It could help recruiting in AZ and perhaps SoCal.

Anon. 12:37, I would love to see the Aggies take on ASU again. Esp. with the financial problems the AD is having and openly expressing looking into more regional games. Not to mention that the last time the two played, NMSU won in Tempe, under Coach Samuel.

But isnt the 2010 schedule already full?

The 2010 schedule appears to have been filled, although I am not sure whether those are signed contracts or just tentative games. Even if there are contracts, often they can be changed to accommodate an opportunity for one of the schools. Look at Arizona, which backed out of a game or two with the Aggies that had been agreed to but (not signed as I understand it) a few years ago. The Wyoming reversal is another example.

NMSU schedule for 2010 is filled. NMSU plays @UTEP, @ Kansas, and home games against UNM, and San Diego State, and than our 8 conference games. Also, according to a paper in Washington. Washington recruit is trying to enroll at NMSU. He is rated the 96th best JUCO player by rivals.com, and had offers from Boise State, Nevada, and Cal. He actually signed with Boise State out of high school in 2007.

Why are you sure of that? Do you think Walker's team is so good that he offers or doesn't offer scholarships based on where a kid is from? Not likely.

Hey Teddy, can you get the basketball guy over there to post something. he hasnt posted anything in 8 days.

And keep up the nice work Teddy.

Thanks 8:10, unless they were able to get ASU to agree to come to LC, I like our schedule. I dont think they should break the SDSU game to go to ASU, but if they could get out of KU and throw in ASU either here or there, I keep it as is. That's only because I'm more likely to go to Tempe over Lawerence.

............

Yes Coach Walker think that califoria player are the best player because that all he bring in.. So we will just wait in see how things go. It would be nice to see him get from player from the states of Florida,Virgina,Texas,South Carolina. That where all the talent is now days.

Think for a minute. Coach Walker and many of his staff are from California. Which recruits was he already familiar with and had an inside so that he could sell them on NMSU - with a short time to get all that done.

I think we know the answer to that. About two thirds of this year's were from California. That will likely decrease in the future.

Texas, Florida, Virgina, and SC are all heavily recruited by the 1000 BCS schools in the area. Also, it would be hard to convice east coast kids to come to LC. It would be a waste of time and money to try and recruit the east coast to a team in the WESTERN Athletic Conference.
