Aggies to officially announce move to Sun Belt on Thursday

New Mexico State University will hold a press conference Thursday at 5 p.m. to officially announce their move as a football-only affiliate into the Sun Belt Conference.

The Sun Belt is expected to announce Appalachian State and Georgia Southern as full-league members, as well as adding Idaho and NMSU as football-only members. Such a move will allow the Sun Belt 12 football schools — and a league championship game at season's end. In turn, the Aggies will have a football home in 2014, as the program's prepared to play an independent schedule this upcoming fall.

Anon 451:

ESPN ranked the WAC 6th in football conferences this year, in front of the Big East, Sun Belt, MAC, MWC, CUSA. http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/57402/sec-finishes-regular-season-atop-rankings

Maybe the "big joke" is you and your expansive football knowledge.

A little stability is better than nothing... now it's time to get all sports out of the WAC.

Lateral move. From one crappy conference to another but beggars can't be choosey .

Glad we are back in a conference. I like Coach Martin's vision. Would love to see the Aggies become a "physical" football team. Looking forward to watching Sun Belt football. Could care less for the Mountain West or C-USA.

Sure you couldn't care less about the MWC or C-USA because they didn't want you.

Arthur,

You have to be wondering about CUSA. They are in the process of losing Tulsa, Memphis, Tulane and one other school that escapes me to the Big East. They'll go from 12 schools to 8 by the end of next year.

Will the MWC want the Big East's leftovers? Probably not.

Very excited to see the Aggies have a football home! Looking forward to seeing how things will turn out this coming 2013 independent season and how they play in their new home in 2014!
