Just think how bad it will be when we are trying to recruit as a D-I independent. I appeal to the regents to not have the season as an independent. Put all of us out of our misery and drop the football program. Maybe someday we can rebuild starting at the D-II level and go from there. Boise started as NAIA, D-II, D-IAA, D-IA and did not move up until they built success at each level. I won't be alive to see it but maybe NMSU could do something like that. But what we are doing now is not working and lets be honest--it is not going to work.
If we are going to drop the program, do it to the FCS level. I'm sure the Southland or Big Sky would happily admit us.
That said, I still think a season or two of independent status would buy us time to see if more conference realignment is in the works. If so, then we may yet have the last laugh when the MWC, C-USA, or the Sun Belt have holes to fill.
First off, where is the Andrew Manley we saw last year and relied upon to take this team all the way? He seems very predictable as is the entire offense. The Offensive line seems undersized and they were not protecting Manley at all last night. The entire secondary, which in the past was the strength of the defense, seems to be lacking. So many deep balls. Cazares seems to be the only one getting the job done and that is in the run game not necessarily the passing game. Lastly, 68 or 36 in the middle? Joyner started versus the Lobos and racked up twelve tackles in a decent first start, it was nothing special and it was clear he had made some key mistakes (including a major penalty) but he is just a sophomore. Adolpho is a Senior and seems to be the much smaller choice in the middle as was exposed on many plays last night. As a coaching staff I would look more towards the future at this point. This season is over for the Aggies. After losing to one of the not as good teams in the WAC, a WAC Championship is out of the picture. In order to be bowl eligible they would have to win 6 out of the next 7 games. It just won't happen. Very frustrated with this team. Thought this year could have been the year but then again, we hear that every year.
i was a guest of an NMSU "dignitary" for the game. i even travelled a great distance to be there. Needless to say i won't be going back at least until the coaching staff is changed. New OC is totally unimaginative. Manley to Franlin, Manley to Franklin, Manley to Franklin. Hell, Teddie you even mentioned the short routes get ignored. Blocking? Come on. The new O line coach got handed his walking papers by a cellar dwelling FCS team because the line looked "confused" on what its assignments were. Same thing here. I don't recall how many times i saw Walls and Wallace colliding into each other and the play going nowhere. On D what did Lavoy do to end up as a backup? Last season he was the meanest SOB on the team until he was hurt. Do some research Teddie. Look what they did up north at Colorado State. Fire the AD, hire a new one and let him bring in a coach with some cred. But before that happens some financial commitment to scholarships has to happen so the next coach (yes Walker needs to go) can bring in some talent.
This is a soft team with virtually no speed or athleticism other than two wide receivers...and very little toughness...Cazares being the exception. Can the Aggies survive as an FBS program? Chances are slim and none. Regents make the decision now to go FCS or drop football. Sad because CDW is a class human being...but not a head coach.
At this point I miss Coach Lenzmeier more than anything else. He wouldnt solve all of the problems that this team has but he would make the O line a hell of a lot better. That would lead to Manley having more time and probably better results for the Aggies. This team is just missing someone to light a fire under their butts to go out there and play. They look so damn uninspired when they take the field.

Yuck.

You would think that in CDW's 4th year, the team would be better. It is getting worse by the minute.
Idaho presents the last chance to win a game this year. Lose @ Idaho (probably will) and we will go 1-11.

Jesus
Jesus is right. Lenzmeir would get on the kids and challenge them.
His replacement, Brad Bredell just hangs and shakes his head, sulks, and his body language is a negative one.
